Facts about Buena Park
Buena Park is located in the northern part of Orange County. According to the results of the 2020 census, the city is home to more than 84,000 residents. The name of the city means "good" in Spanish. Buena Park is roughly 12 miles from Santa Ana, the county seat.
The city's origins can be traced back to the efforts of James A. Whitaker. In 1885, he purchased approximately 690 acres from land developer Abel Stearns. By 1887, Whitaker had laid out the platting for what would become known as the City of Buena Park. The point was to make ample use of the development of the railway system in what would become Orange County.
The community remained unincorporated until 1953. Primarily a center for agriculture prior to that time, the new city began to become more of a commercial and residential hub. Today, Buena Park is known for the presence of several different tourist attractions, with Knott's Berry Farm being among the most prominent.
