Facts about Fountain Valley
Fountain Valley is located in Orange County, and is part of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. According to the 2020 census, the city has a population of 57,047. The name is said to be inspired by the presence of a number of artesian wells in the area.
The origins of what would become Fountain Valley are traced back to 1896. At that time, Thomas B. Talbert and his family purchased 300 acres of swampland and began to develop it. A general store was opened, and the community was given the name of Talbert. By 1899, the community had its own post office.
Beet production became a key element in the development of the new community. Farming continued to be key throughout the first half of the 20th century. In 1957, the residents voted to incorporate, and named the new city Fountain Valley. In the decades following, housing developments became a major element, and the city gained a reputation as a suburb.
Today, Fountain Valley is the national headquarters for Hyundai Motor America, and also the D-Link Corporation. Kingston Technology maintains a worldwide headquarters in the city. Surefire LLC, a manufacturer of military and commercial flashlights, is also based in Fountain Valley.
